Friends, I’m cancelling the Road Rally.

The weather forecast calls for wind gusts up to 30 MPH this afternoon. Combined with highway speeds of 65 MPH, that’s 95 MPH winds–a category 1 hurricane. The flag rig I have is rated up to 65 MPH. What would happen if a Trump flag ripped off a vehicle and caused a crash on the highway? Would that help Trump, or would it become fodder for CNN to ridicule Trump supporters?

I decided not to try to reroute the rally this late. I should have had an alternate route planned, but this came together so late, I didn’t think of that.

I apologize for the false alarm.

To that end, we prayed equally for everyone present at the event:

For those who attacked us and called us names

For those who falsely accused us of being in the KKK

For those on both sides of the issues who came to provoke the other side

For those police officers who donned riot gear on a hot, humid day to keep us all safe

For those who came out to pray

For all of them, we prayed to God that He softens our hearts and fills our souls with gifts of the Holy Spirit.

Secondarily, we prayed for the preservation of the statue.

We prayed for the statue because we believe that the statue will inspire people to learn about and imitate the man it represents: St. Louis IX, King of France. We believe that people who live like St. Louis lived will wind up in heaven for eternity. We believe this despite knowing that some of King Louis IX’s actions as king sound abhorrent to modern ears. As the St. Louis Archdiocese stated:

St. Louis is an example of an imperfect man who strived to live a life modeled after the life of Jesus Christ. For St. Louisans, he is a model for how we should care for our fellow citizens and a namesake with whom we should be proud to identify.

The Archdiocese reminds us that St. Louis, despite normal human flaws, was immensely charitable king:

The reforms that St. Louis implemented in French government focused on impartial justice, protecting the rights of his subjects steep penalties for royal officials abusing power, and a series of initiatives to help the poor.

King Louis IX’s renowned work in charity helped elevate him to Sainthood. His daily suppers were shared with numerous beggars, whom he invited to the royal table. On many evenings, he would not let them leave before he washed their feet. He personally paid to feed more than 100 poor Parisians every day. His care for the sick was equally moving; St. Louis frequently ministered to lepers & created hospitals, including one for ex-prostitutes.

Even his decisions that some moderns find repulsive were taken with the intent of leading more souls to heaven.

Therefore, we prayed that the statue of St. Louis survives in order to fight the enemy, Satan, by inspiring more people to follow St. Louis’s example of justice, mercy, and love of neighbor.

(Read the Archdiocese’s full statement here.)

But, God’s Will, Not Ours #

A remarkably brave and energetic priest, Fr. Samuel Miloscia traveled from Kansas City to St. Louis to lead the faithful in prayer. He said, “you are doing God’s work.”

Fr. Miloscia leads the Joyful Mysteries at the statue of St. Louis.

I hope so.

I preceded the Rosary with a plea to God for humility. The humility to recognize that we humans are powerless and that anything we do without His guidance ends in sin and failure.

Though we believe that the statue will lead souls to Christ, let God’s will prevail, not ours. We could be wrong, though there’s no evidence that we are.

God Bless These Priests #

Last week, Bishop Robert Barron issued a tweet that I’m sure he regrets.

When asked by a faithful Catholic why he and his fellow bishops were not actively defending churches and monuments from desecration, Bishop Barron responded:

That’s the laity’s job!

A low point for Bishop Robert Barron.

Apparently, Bishop Barron believes the Second Vatican Council forbade priests from taking public stands for or against the desecration of sacred art. Fortunately, some priests still choose to lead.

<img src="https://www.hennessysview.com/images/priest-rosary-stl.jpeg"

A brave priest , Fr. Stephen Schumacher, stands between angry protesters and the statue of St. Louis.

Four priests attended Saturday’s Rosary. Father Miloscia, whom we mentioned earlier, traveled from Kansas City. His family came out, as well. They’re from the St. Louis area. The three other priests apparently came from St. Francis de Sales Oratory run by the priests of the Institute of Christ the King.

Holy priests, reportedly of the Institute of Christ the King, provide clerical guidance to Catholics praying for the preservation of a saintly statue.

It’s hard to explain how happy and relieved the Catholic laity felt upon seeing their collars and cassocks. While the laity should, indeed, carry Christ to the public square, we are prone to greater error than devout and holy priests. Moreover, lack of priestly leadership leads both the faithful and their opponents to question whether our actions are truly in accord with Church teaching.

We all want to thank and pray for these four wonderful men of God who ignored episcopal calls to “leave it to the laity.” They demonstrated heroic humility and zeal by leading us in prayers and hymns. God bless them.

The Only Conflict Was Between God and Satan Fought on Our Plane #

St. Louis Police decided they needed to stand between protestors and a small group of Christians who gathered to pray the Rosary. God bless those officers. The temperature was over 90 degrees, and they were in full riot gear.

The conflict arose after a local activist started petition drives to tear down a statue and rename the city.

The press loves conflict and confrontation, of course, and its treatment of the event would indicate that conflict was its end.

It was not.

The purpose of the gathering was love. Let me explain.

Love of Neighbor Is to To Will the Good of the Other #

Jesus declared," ‘Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.’ This is the first and greatest commandment. And the second is like it: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.'… —Matthew 22:37-39

The first and greatest commandment is to love God with all our hearts, souls, and minds. The second is to love our neighbor as ourselves.

The Theologians teach us that the second commandment, as understood by early Christians, was ordered toward God, not toward other men. In other words, we are to love our neighbor as ourselves for God’s sake, not for our sakes nor our neighbors’.

To love one’s neighbor for God’s sake is to will our neighbor’s ultimate good. And the ultimate good is to share forever God’s glory in heaven.

Willing the good for one’s neighbor, then, intends wanting his salvation. Satisfying this commandment requires that we treat our neighbor with his salvation in mind. That is why Christ tells us to pray for our enemies.

Two Kinds of Enemies #

When Jesus tells us to love and pray for our enemies, He means to love and pray for people who oppose us. People, somewhat erroneously, call people who oppose us “enemies.”

In fact, our only enemy is the enemy of God, the angel who chose eternal separation from God. The dark angel who said, “I will not serve.”

Jesus is not calling us to love Satan. In fact, by loving our human “enemies,” we are fighting the enemy. Satan wants to destroy God’s beloved humanity, one soul at a time.

We believe that those who provoke or commit violence, those who seek to destroy monuments, those who wish to erase history and deny free speech and association, are cooperating with evil. They are not intrinsically evil people; they are lost souls who find solace and comfort from the father of lies, a master at convincing humans God has abandoned them. Feeling abandoned, some people choose the safety promised by demons.

For these poor souls we pray.

God sent His only Son to teach us how to avoid the evil one and live forever in glory. When we love and pray for our “enemies,” we are doing God’s will by winning souls. In the process, we love our neighbors by helping them escape an eternity in hell.

That’s what love of neighbor means: helping people escape hell. And that is why we prayed at the statue of St. Louis on Saturday—in hopes of actively cooperating in God’s will by helping souls find Him through Christ.

P.S. If anyone know the brave two brave priests we could not identify, please let me know by email (bill@billhennessy.com) or in the comments. I’d like them to get personal credit for their courage.

Let Us Pray at the Statue of St. Louis in Forest Park Saturday

By the grace of God, Jim Hoft, the Gateway Pundit, has called all Catholic Christian men to pray the Rosary at the statue of St. Louis IX, King of France, on Art Hill in Forest Park at Noon on Saturday, June 28, 2020. Two died from gunshot wounds. The other eight are alive in unknown or unreported condition.

Via the Washington Times:

Authorities say at least 10 people were shot, two of them fatally, in a single day in St. Louis.

The St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports that the the gunfire began around 1:15 p.m. Saturday when a 28-year-old man was fatally shot. Police say there were two other separate, nonfatal shooting before the second victim was fatally shot around 8:10 p.m. At almost the exact same time, four others were wounded in another shooting.

Police say the other two victims were wounded around 8:15 p.m. and around 11:30 p.m.

When will St. Louisans be required to wear body armor and sidearms? Maybe we should be required to stay outside the shooting range of our neighbors.

Clearly, the only real effect of the Coronavirus lockdown in St. Louis has been to destroy small businesses and put a lot of people out of work. People who are now angry, antisocial, and masked.

Expect a long, hot summer.

Why You Should Come to St. Louis If You Can’t Drive to the Beach

Yes, there are three major Tea Party events on 9-12: Washington, Sacramento, and St. Louis. But if you can’t see the Atlantic or the Pacific from your window, why don’t you make the trip to the middle of the country, to the “Gateway to November” Tea Party under the Arch?

I’m hearing from groups in Florida, Georgia, Indiana, Ohio, West Virginia, Texas, Oklahoma, Nebraska, Iowa, and many from Illinois and Kansas who CANNOT WAIT for the 9-12 “Gateway to November” Tea Party in St. Louis. They’re ready to roll, to recycle, and to repeal. Are you?

Thanks to the K&N Patriots who volunteered to serve as Ambassadors to the bus groups coming into town. If you need their assistance or have any questions in putting your bus trip together please call 314-266-1775 and leave a message. We’ll get back to you as quickly as possible. You may also email admin@stlouisteaparty.com. Please include 9-12 Groups in the Subject line of the email.

Now, some people want to know why we’re having a Tea Party on 9-12, and why is always the most important question.

We’re having a 9-12 Tea Party because believing in a vision is the key to making it real.

If people do not believe that we can accomplish what we hope to accomplish, they will not help us. If they do believe we can change history, they will join the fight.

Leftist, liberal, and Democrat organizations hire their protesters, their audiences, and their grassroots activists. That’s because liberalism is funded by billionaires and big corporations, like GE.

Conservatives, on the other hand, must earn our support. That requires not just being right, but also being creative, offering novelty and reward, to those who come out to events. The bar rises when you ask volunteers to knock on doors, distribute literature on street corners, or make phone calls.

**One way we attract and energize activists is with big events, like the 9-12 Tea Party in St. Louis. **

On Sunday, September 12, 2010, St. Louis will host the Midwest’s 9-12 Tea Party. This event, billed as the “Gateway to November,” will attract new volunteers and energize veterans. That’s the purpose of all big rallies, and it’s why media attention matters.

Large crowds of true believers serve as social proof to others who already agree with our view of government and philosophy, but doubt our dedication and our clout. When they see hundreds of thousands in DC or ten thousand in St. Louis, they begin to believe in our vision as well as in our reading of history.

We need to attract those who believe what we believe—limited government, fiscal responsibility, low taxes, national security, and federalism. And we must help them believe that, together, we can change things.

If everyone who believes what we believe votes in November 2010, in the primaries and general elections of 2012 and beyond, then we cannot fail to restore the republic. But if we only talk among ourselves, if we pretend that twenty people in a public library meeting room is enough to change the world, we will forever lash out at and blame bogeymen for our own failures.

Spread the word.

Build the energy.

Share the vision.

Grow the movement.

Win the election.

Repeat in 2012.

That’s why a Tea Party. And that’s why we need you in St. Louis on the steps of the Arch on September 12 at High Noon.

Video of St. Louis Event--Almost as Good as Being There *update*

My hat’s off to Bob Anders and the crew from Creative Video Services for this 3-part series of the St. Louis Nationwide Chicago Tea Party protest held February 27, 2009.

Officer Norvelle Brown, only 22 years old and a rookie cop, made St. Louis headlines for the second time in his short career–his short, honorable life. In April, Officer Brown responded to a hostage situation during a barber shop robber, defusing the situation and apprehending the armed robbers. He and another officer received citations for that action. He had been out of the academy only 7 months at the time.

Last night, Officer Brown left his patrol car to investigate a group of people who were loitering in a vacant lot. No one knows the exact details leading to Brown’s murder. We do know that the bullet that killed him missed his body armor, passing through both lungs.

Officer Brown was able to speak for a short time before he died. Police have not publicized his last words. I hope they were to his parents.

Fox2 News online has more information.

Backstoppers is an organization that takes care of first responders killed or disabled in the line of duty. If you have an extra dollar or two, they will put it to great use. For instance, within 24 hours, Officer Brown’s family will get a visit from Backstoppers, along with a $5,000 check. Later, the Backstoppers will help the family with any additional needs related to their son’s service and tragic death.

That was this morning. Tonight, one of St. Louis’s finest churches was destroyed in a fire that still roars on in the hot, humid air of August in St. Louis. The 125-year-old St. Alphonsus Liguori “Rock” church stood at 1118 North Grand, about 4 blocks south of Vashon High School where Officer Brown attended. The Rock church was beacon in the North St. Louis area.

My mood has been glum all day. It’s glummer now. The heat wave that’s plagued St. Louis for two weeks broke this evening. But the rain that damped the temperature seem more like tears from Heaven, mourning St. Louis’s long, hot day.
